Sanctuary Cove Refresh

The Brief

The previous owners had removed some large sections of the original garden in front of the house which needed to be replaced. Our clients spend a lot of time in their home office which overlooks a courtyard, so a new visually appealing area needed to be created here.

Our Solution

The garden at the front of the house was on quite a slope. In conjunction with the owners it was decided that a new concrete block retaining wall would enhance new tiered layers of planting. As the courtyard was such a focal point we wanted to create something that appealed to all the senses. The water feature provided a visually pleasing element while at the same time the gently trickling water created a beautiful tranquil effect. Magnolia’s softened the high wall along one side of the area and the perfume from these permeates the whole house in late spring. The remainder of the planting in this area was deliberately kept low to maximise the spacious feel.

Features

  • New concrete block retaining wall
  • New sandstone steps
  • Large front garden allowed for a creative planting layout
  • Strongly contrasting plant textures and colours
  • Sandstone slabs bordered by a low hedge lead the eye to the water feature.
